Palazzo Almare, one of the finest restaurants in Chania

Below the Byzantine Walls of the Castello, where the history of Chania once began, you will find Palazzo Almare, one of the best restaurants in Chania’s Old Port.

Palazzo Almare offers Greek cuisine, with a philosophy based on Cretan and Mediterranean flavours enriched with a modern touch, while also giving diners a magic view of the Venetian harbour and its famous lighthouse.

“We believe that the food we serve must be of the highest quality ingredients with all their natural flavours kept, and carefully prepared to trigger all of your senses! Here at Palazzo Almare, our Chef and kitchen team take pride in cooking and serving you with sophisticated plates treated with love, adding the fundamental details of the traditional Cretan cuisine in every dish. The Cretan diet is world famous not only for its health benefits but also for being a strong base of the Mediterranean way of cooking,” say the owners of Palazzo Almare.

All food is prepared daily with fresh products from Crete; seafood from the sea surrounding the island, meat from free cattle, locally grown and collected vegetables and herbs, all prepared and cooked with the finest Cretan olive oil and spices.

Favourites on the menu include fried graviera cheese with house-made rose marmalade, Cretan  pizza (smoked fish and cherry tomatoes and olives with a great crispy crust), grilled octopus (with capers and sun-dried tomato), fresh squid stuffed with cheese, sun-dried tomato and basil oil, Cretan pasta “sioufichta” with vegetables and dry “anthotiros” cheese and of course the Cretan salad. Not to mention, portions are quite big, leaving you full and very satisfied. And the best part, complimentary fruit, and Raki is also offered, giving customers the full Cretan hospitality.

This beautiful and elegant restaurant has carefully been renovated to preserve the building’s historical architecture, creating a retro atmosphere that will awaken memories. Having a perfect location on the harbour, and mouth-watering food, we definitely recommend this restaurant, especially for dinner as the view of the sunset on the harbour is unbelievable!
