A high fire alert has been issued for Attica, Evia and the Northern Aegean Islands for Wednesday, as announced by the Civil Protection Secretary General’s office.
In a statement, the Interior Ministry’s department said that drivers and people visiting wooded areas should heed any restrictions imposed by local authorities.
The areas facing a high probability of fire on Wednesday include the following:
– The islands of Chios, Ikaria, Lesvos, and Samos in the North Aegean
– The islands of Evia and Skyros in mainland Greece, and
– The entire region of Attica
The department also called on people to call the Fire Brigade on 199 to report fires and wildfires and referred them to its web page civilprotection.gr/en for further information.
