Kerameikos named one of the world’s coolest neighbourhoods

Leading publication Forbes has named Kerameikos in Athens, one of the coolest neighbourhoods in the world.

This hip and creative hub is filled with an array of exciting new restaurants, tavernas, and street food joints, not to mention it's now one of the trendiest places in Athens to grab a drink.

The neighborhood’s profile is being noticed worldwide amongst foodies, coffee connoisseurs, and cocktail lovers as you are bound to find some of the best souvlaki, espresso, and martini here!

What makes Kerameikos so interesting is the creative locals that are setting up shop here and the cool crowds that come to support them.

Forbes says this district is a favorite because of its culinary backstreets, “Just a ten-minute walk from Athens’ buzzing historic center, the laidback Kerameikos neighborhood seems to live in a magical world of its own,” writes their correspondent.

“It’s a place where old and new, Greece’s storied past and often turbulent present, tradition and forward-looking creativity all coexist happily together. At the weekly street market, the neighborhood comes alive in a riot of sights, smells and flavors. In recent years Kerameikos’s low rents and old-time feel have lured creative young Athenians to the area, where they have opened inventive restaurants, bars and cafés along with galleries and theaters. Joining Kerameikos’s rich trove of existing old-school establishments, these new spots have helped create one of the Athens’ most exciting dining and cultural scenes," says Forbes.

Other neighbourhoods around the world who also made the "cool" list: Sants in Barcelona, Maboneng in Johannesburg, District 5 in Saigon, Pilsen in Chicago, and Kalk Bay in Cape Town.
