With the most striking crystal blue waters and pink sand, it's no wonder Elafonissi in Crete has been named as Greece’s best beach and one of the Top 5 beaches in Europe at the annual TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice Awards for 2018.
Lying on the southwestern side of Crete and about 75 kilometers from Chania, you can reach this little piece of paradise by a daily bus service, by car, or even by boat.
A journey of 80 km through a pretty countryside from Chania town will bring you to the stunning area of Elafonissi.
Here you will find some of the most gorgeous beaches in Crete, which attract tens of thousands of tourists every year.
It is a magical spot separated from the southwest coast of Crete, by a shallow, warm lagoon and a sandbar that is submerged under about one meter of water at most during high tide.
The beach on the mainland and on the part of the sandbar that is never submerged is a very popular spot over the summer season for locals and international visitors who flock here to enjoy all its glory.
The whole area is an endless summer playground for people of all ages and here you will find sunbeds where you can sit back and relax in the shade, and a small beach bar where you can purchase snacks and drinks, making it ideal for families too.
