In the heart of Athens, situated on top of a neoclassical building, you will find the Public Cafe, which gives guests an amazing view over Syntagma Square and the Greek Parliament, while enjoying some good food and drinks.
The cafe is housed on the top level of the big department store PUBLIC which sells books, maps, electronics, games, gifts, music, movies and so much more.
You can choose to sit outside on the terrace or inside on the couch or bar area.
No matter where you are placed, you are able to take in that incredible view and for us, the hardest choice was deciding on what food to try, as there are so many delicious options.
Our favourites on the menu included the Public Breakfast (a fried egg, crispy bacon, 2 bread rolls, the cake of the day, butter, honey, jam, yoghurt with cereals/muesli, coffee and orange juice), Classic Club (Club Sandwich with chicken fillets, bacon, tomato, and lettuce served with french fries), Salmon Salad (smoked salmon, croutons, fresh tomatoes, onions and vinaigrette lemon), Parmesana Pizza (Italian pizza dough baked in a wood oven with rocket, parmesan cheese and caramelised onions) and the Gnocchi (with stewed red beef steak and Naxos’ gruyère; a type of cheese).
Needless to say, there is always room for dessert and the standouts for us were the Oreo Cheesecake, Profiterole, Apple Pie and Chocolate Soufflé.
Our high recommendation is to dine by the window before sunset and enjoy your food and drinks while the Aegean sun disappears behind the Greek Parliament and nightfall appears with the moon- sigh!
