Museums from Kythera and Larissa won the top prizes in the 5th European Museums in Short Film competition held in Slovenia this year.

The Diachronic Museum of Larissa in the town of Mezourlo took first place (Museums in Short 2018 award) for its video "Tracing the Footsteps of Human Society" whilst Kythera island's museum was the audience favorite with "I Am the Lion of Kythera".

A total of 49 museums from 20 European countries took part, and 12 finalists were selected in three categories: promotional, exhibits and storytelling.

"The final act - the award ceremony - took place in Piran for the second time in a row, also with the assistance of the local partners. Since the event took place in one of Piran’s historic squares it was open for public. Thus the representatives of museums, production houses, and the jury were joined by numerous visitors of Piran,” said the director of the Forum of Slavic Cultures Andreja Rihter, after the ceremony.

The exhibits prize was won by the Van Gogh Museum of Amsterdam ("Seeing with a Japanese Eye"), and the storytelling award went to the Musee des Civilisations de l'Europe et de la Mediterranee in Marseille ("Rural Worlds").

The award ceremony was held in the Slovenian town of Piran.
