Stefanos Tsitsipas aims to bring ATP event back to Greece

Greek tennis sensation Stefanos Tsitsipas is certainly making waves on the tennis circuit and gaining fans worldwide. Stefanos says he now wants to use his popularity to do something for his country by bringing an ATP event back to Greece.

Currently ranked number 15, the talented athlete is working hard breaking into the Top 10 and is aiming at qualifying at the ATP Finals in London this year.

However, Stefanos has another mission in mind and that is to put Greece back on the map in the tennis world by bringing an ATP event to Athens.

The last ATP tournament in Athens took place between 1986 and 1990 and during a recent interview with Reuters, Stefanos said, “I think if things go the same as they are now, we’re going to see an ATP 250 or 500 in the next three, four or five years (in Athens), in my opinion.”

“I know some people back home that are interested in doing this and they showed me the project of how the tournament is going to look.

“I was fascinated. It is in Athens of course (but) I was surprised at the location because it’s actually very clever to (stage) this tournament there.”
