Bernard Delahaye of the European Central Bank praised the Greek government today for its “remarkable work” in recent years as it negotiated the crisis.

Delahaye who made the statements during an interview with Kathimerini newspaper, commended the government for managing to implement key reforms on the economy leading to greater cooperation between Greece and the European institutions in support of the country’s transition to full market access.

The ECB executive also acknowledged that the Greek people suffered during the crisis and imposition of harsh measure by creditors, many of which were “mistakes”.

For debt sustainability he noted that the decision of the Eurogroup on 22 June was an important step in its rehabilitation in the medium term.
