Official figures released by the traffic police on Wednesday show that there were 363 road accidents in which 20 people lost their lives and 425 were injured (13 of them seriously) during the month of August in Attica.
The main causes of these accidents was a failure to drive with due caution, violation of traffic signs and signals and violation of traffic rules by pedestrians.
During this period, traffic police issued 15,115 tickets for various violations of traffic rules, including 373 tickets for drunk driving, 2,593 tickets for exceeding the speed limit, 262 for running red lights, 250 for using a mobile phone while driving, 319 for not wearing a seatbelt and 1,068 for not wearing helmets on motorcycles.
