TUI names their new Boeing 737 “Rhodes” in honour of Greek island

The largest leisure, travel and tourism company in the world, TUI Group on Friday announced the name "Rhodes" as their second new 737 MAX 8 aircraft.

The "Rhodes" plane is an initiative by the TUI Airlines to highlight their partnership with the destinations it serves.

With Rhodes being the fourth most popular destination for the group's customers according to the TUI Holiday Atlas, Regional director for the East Mediterranean of TUI Destination Services, Michalis Mavropoulos stated that “the island of Rhodes is not just a popular destination. It has tourism know-how, modern quality hotels, competent and trained human resources. On Rhodes we offer special, diversified experiences and recognized hotel brands such as as TUI Sensatori and TUI Family Life.”

The Christening of "Rhodes" took place at Rhodes International Airport, by the wife of Rhodes Mayor Fotis Hatzidiakos, Agapi Kalomiri.

The Mayor thanked TUI for naming the aircraft after the largest Dodecanese island in Greece, stating that "TUI will transport the name of Rhodes all over the world." The partnership will help maintain the island's competitiveness in international markets, with Mayor Hatzidiakos believing that the “Rhodes” aircraft will help boost the tourist flow to Greece and enhance the effort to extend the tourism season.
