Passenger traffic at Greece's airports hits an all time high

According to the latest data from the Hellenic Aviation Authority, passenger traffic in all of Greece’s airports over the first eight months of the year has hit an all-time high.

The report shows that a total number of passengers during the January-August period reached 44,454,920, showing an increase of 9.9 percent (over 4 million) compared to the corresponding period of 2017 when 40,443,451 passengers were recorded.

The total number of flights to Greek airports amounted to 368,581 (139,061 domestic and 229,520 international), recording an increase of 8.7 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2017 (339,085 flights).

In August alone, 10,071,285 passengers passed through Greek airports, up 9.4 percent on average.

The total number of flights at the country’s airports during August amounted to 79,228, up by 10.3 percent from last year.

During the same month, arrivals of foreign passengers reached 3,854,233 – 8.8 percent more than in 2017 (3,542,059 arrivals).

The busiest airports in Greece during August were Athens, Heraklion, Rhodes, Thessaloniki, and Corfu.

Greek airports that recorded the highest passenger traffic percentage increase in the January-August period were Sitia, on Crete, Milos and Naxos.
