A restaurant devoted to traditional Greek and Polítiki cuisine, featuring delicious flavours from Constantinople is set to open its doors in Sydney, Australia next month!
“Our restaurant is inspired by the main character in the novel, Loxandra, by Maria Iordanidou. Loxandra is synonymous with good quality food, with hospitality and nurturing, and with the time-honoured values of love, family and friendship,” said hosts Yiannis Meravoglou and Aris Chatzigeorgiou.
Loxandra was known for cooking up a storm at the drop of a hat, and for receiving her guests with warmth and great hospitality. In her famous quote, she says: “When you cook for those you love, food is tastier”.
“Our philosophy is to share the spirit of Greek hospitality through good food and time-honoured recipes at reasonable prices. Experience the spirit of Greece with authentic recipes, fresh produce, fresh meats, and seafood prepared with virgin olive oil and lots of meraki by our highly skilled Greek chefs,” they add.
The focus of Loxandra's inviting menu is mezedes, which promote the experience and philosophy of sharing food, and also on a celebration of seasonal produce. “Our aim is to showcase the flavours and aromas of classic dishes that evoke our grandmothers’ cooking.”
The menu includes Prawn Saganaki flavoured with Ouzo, Politiki Salata (cabbage, carrot, capsicums, celery, piquant), (Pastry filled with pastrami, graviera cheese and sun-dried tomato), Moussaka (layers of minced beef, eggplant, and potatoes topped with creamy béchamel, Imám baildí (Eggplant stuffed with onions and cooked in a tomato sauce), Soutzoukakia yaourtlou (minced beef fingers on pita bread, piquant sauce, and yogurt sauce) and desserts include Ekmek and Loukoumades.
There is also an extensive list of mains, including spit-roasted meats served for Sunday lunch, making it a great place to bring your family and friends to enjoy a traditional Greek lunch.
There will also be live acoustic background music on Friday evenings and traditional music on Saturday evenings.
