Cyclone Zorbas hits the Peloponnese causing flash flooding (VIDEOS)

By 6 years ago

Villages and towns around Messinia in the Peloponnese were struck by Cyclone Zorbas, which caused flash flooding and landslides, while rivers swept away cars, and roads, streets, homes, and shops were flooded, especially in the areas of Corinthos, Koroni, Finikounda, and Methoni.

Authorities closed dozens of roads to traffic after they were flooded by rains, and the town of Argos was flooded when the water broke over banks of two rivers close by.

The cyclone struck the coast of the southern Peloponnese tearing up trees and disgorging boats and yachts.

Ships will remain docked in the ports of Piraeus, Rafina and Lavrio on Saturday due to gale-force winds up to 10 on the Beaufort scale blowing in the Aegean Sea, the port authorities said.

There will be no service in the Argosaronic Islands (Aegina, Poros, Hydra, and Spetses).

Ferry services Rio-Antirrio, Kyllini-Zakynthos and Kyllini-Kefalonia were also suspended.
