August Full Moon events attracted over 100,000 visitors

The opening of archeological sites during the August full moon proved to be a great success with the public, according to the Ministry of Culture and Sport which announced more than 100,000 people had visited the sites during the evening on the day of the full moon.

In its announcement the Ministry noted that the increase in visitor numbers was quite significant, with 63,795 in 2016 and 75,000 in 2017.

Continuing with the tradition which has occurred the past few years, the Ministry of Culture and Sport organised this years August's Panhellenic events, offering archaeological sites and monuments to the public for free so they could enjoy a pleasant summer night under the moonlight. “’Full Moon of August”” was included in events calendar for the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018.

The Ministry noted that "from 24th to 27th of August, at the peak of 26th of August, which was the full Moon, there was events were held in 96 spaces, monuments and museums (musical concerts, poetic nights, observation of the starry sky, theatrical performances, art exhibitions, dance performances, guided tours), while 34 other venues and museums remained open to the public. Entrance to all rooms was free. "
