Fights break out in migrant camp in Thessaloniki

Intense scuffles broke out yesterday evening at the refugee and immigrant shelter of the former Anagnostopoulou military camp in Diavata, Thessaloniki.

According to reports, two immigrant groups of about 30 people, attacked each other resulting in a 32-year-old Iraqi man to be injured by a sharp object. The victim was quickly transported by ambulance to the Gennemats hospital.

The tense stand-off between the groups lasted for about twenty minutes until police arrived and put the situation under control.

Police did not make any arrests and according to sources, the incident was sparked by issues relating to accommodation of the respective groups.
