New York Police looking for suspect who vandalised Greek Orthodox Church

The New York Police Department (NYPD) has released surveillance photos in the hope of identifying a man who splattered profanities on the exterior doors of an upper Manhattan Greek Orthodox Church.

The vandalism of Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church, at 124 Wadsworth Avenue, was reported in the early morning hours of September 23rd, police said. CCTV images of a man who is writing offensive words in black marker across a four-door entrance.

The NYPD describes the suspect as a bearded man, possibly aged 30 and at 5'8" tall, wearing a black baseball cap and sneakers.

In April 2016 the Parish Council undertook the much-needed task of completing the restoration of the interior of their Byzantine church. Every effort was made to restore the historic Temple of the church, especially its iconography, in a manner consistent with the workmanship and style of the original artwork.

The local priest and parishioners are said to be very upset by the incident and are calling on witnesses to come forward with any information.
