Fragments of floor mosaics removed from archaeological sites in the 1960s from the sacred island of Delos and another from the Library of Hadrian in Athens were returned to Greece on October 10, the Greek Culture and Sports Ministry said in an announcement on Wednesday.

The three fragments were sent in the post to the Greek embassy in Berlin by a German woman, who admitted that two had been taken from the island of Delos and the third from Athens.

The pieces have since been examined by experts, who said that the fragments from Delos most likely came from the floor of a Hellenistic-era residence, while the third is also a piece of flooring, possibly from the 5th century AD.
