Consul General of Greece in Gjirokastra, Albania, Mr. Vassilios Tolios, sadly passed away overnight.
After his posting as Consul General of Greece in Sydney, from 2007-2013, he returned to Athens working in the Foreign Ministry's central office in the Greek capital before being appointed the role of Consul General in Gjirokastra.
Mr. Vassilios Tolios and his wife Mrs. Dora Toumanidou, Vice Consul within the Foreign Ministry in Greece, contributed significantly to the Greek Community in Sydney, Gjirokastra, and other cities, spreading Hellenism.
In Sydney, their enthusiasm and passion to promote Greek culture and Hellenism in a country so far away from the motherland was a driving force during their six-year posting in Australia. Their legacy was also the facilitation of the reconciliation between the Archdiocese of Australia and the Greek Orthodox Community of NSW.
