Greece set to receive its first snow of the season

The cold weather is set to kick in across Greece today and the first lot of snow is expected around the country this Friday, 16th of November.

According to meteorologists, rainfall will be intense especially in the south region and the Aegean islands, with a slight change expected to begin from today, Thursday 15th of November.

Rain will occur mainly in eastern Macedonia, Thrace, Halkidiki, the Sporades, Evia, Attica, the Southwest Peloponnese, the Cyclades, and western Crete.

In the rest of the country, the weather will generally be mild.

Winds (mostly northwest) will begin to intensify mainly from the evening hours and will reach 7 Beaufort in the Aegean and 6 Beaufort in the Ionian Sea.

The very cold weather though is set to arrive on Friday, with snow reaching 1 metre high.

On Friday, severe rain is expected in several regions of the Ionian Islands, mainland Greece (mainly Thessaly and southern) and both central and southern Aegean.

Snowfall is expected to appear first in several ski resorts in the western, central and southern regions as they are at quite high altitudes.
