Last night the locals of Larissa dressed trees around the city with coats, which will be given to the underprivileged to keep them warm this winter.

An event titled “We Dress Trees with Coats’’ took place last night, Thursday 22ndof November 2018, where people gathered and handed over new and used winter coats that they no longer use to help those in need over the cooler months.

The organiser of the event Giorgos Tranta, who is a high school teacher, had been to Bulgaria last year and seen this great initiative taking place and thought it would be a great idea to start it in his hometown.

The event was promoted through social media, and many participated, with the main aim of dressing poor children of the city and wrote a message saying: "Now that the cold starts, let's follow a good practice: dress the trees in coats or jackets that we do not need by writing  a “wear it "note as well as the size of the garment for those who do not have anything to wear in the cold. We are sending a message that no one is alone in the cold.”

"We want to show people that they are not alone and that we stand by them and feel their weakness, pain, and difficulty," explained Tranta.

The coats are going to be given to the Municipality who also supply groceries to the poor and will hand them out to families in need.

"I hope other parts of Greece also get behind this and we hope this becomes an annual event,” Tranta concluded.
