Fashion is not only about fabrics and designs. Fashion is about dreams. The ability to dream and then the act of transforming something simple into something beautiful, unique, and even romantic.
A reality, a place, a dress, a woman.
There are not many fashion designers who can do that. But Vassilis Zoulias, the storyteller and icon-maker, absolutely does. He can make you feel like a movie star. Like Audrey Hepburn. And if “you take a picture” you will see what I mean.
Inspired by the film “Funny Face” (1957) with Audrey Hepburn –a movie in love with fashion-, the beloved Greek designer Vassilis Zoulias opened the last day of the 24thAthens Xclusive Designers Week with a dreamy show for his S/S ’19 collection, with a 90’s glamor scent, at sunny Peristillio of Zappeion.
In the film, the famous photographer Dick Avery commandeers a Greenwich Village bookstore for an elaborate fashion shoot and finds himself captivated by Jo (Audrey Hepburn) the shy, intellectual young woman in charge. He immediately realizes that, in his hands, Jo, this brainy beauty, could make a difference in the fashion world and persuades her to go with him to Paris, a trip that changes her life.
Zoulias transformed Zappeion into a photo shooting studio where (real life) photographer Haris Christopoulos, as a special guest, welcomed and captured the models live. Vicky Kaya, Zoulias’ muse opened the show with a glamorous silver dress full of sequins and a very impressive statement necklace. The music, which was a range of 90's favorite hits, created an absolutely atmospheric show.
Vassilis Zoulias’ creations were dominated by impressive and intense colors, inflatable sleeves, imposing hats designed by Katerina Karousou, while the unique jewelry by Periklis Kondylatos completed the wonderful creations.
The designer celebrated his 15-year career path in fashion design and his friends were there to support him. But Zoulias’ shows are always like a big party, an intense performance. It is like he always celebrates something and I think it’s his passion for fashion because he puts his soul into this.
“With my beautiful lifetime friends who lovingly came to support me and celebrate with me my 15 years as a designer. Of course, we go way back together. It was the early 90s when we met and I got obsessed with them. How many hours we spent together in the studios doing what we loved! Thank you, Vicky Kaya and Evi Adam! What would my show be without you?” he wrote, hours after the show.
It was a fairytale from the past that made us dream about the future.
