By 5 years ago

World-renowned primatologist, conservationist, anthropologist and United Nations Messenger of Peace, Dr Jane Goodall is in Greece this week to deliver a series of speeches and to meet with the students of the Roots & Shoots Greece program she officially launched on her first trip to Greece two years ago.

Her speech titled "Jane Goodall: Reasons to Hope" is delivered in English with simultaneous translation in Greek. The speech, which is a free event, is for the general public, as well as scientists, teachers, students, adolescents and adults who want to meet her and be inspired by her work.

Thessaloniki, which held a free screening of the award-winning documentary Jane last Friday night, organised by the Thessaloniki International Film Festival and National Geographic Greece, was first to play host to Dr Goodall last night. She will also be visiting Athens today and Heraklio tomorrow.

At 84 years of age, Dr Goodall travels around the world 300 days of the year tirelessly spreading her messages of peace and proclaiming the conviction and hope that the human species will ultimately solve the problems it has caused on the planet.

Inspiring everyone she meets through her experiences, findings, storytelling and belief for the future, excitement has been building among the Greek students she met two years ago who are eager to show their completed Roots & Shoots projects to the woman who has instilled them with the confidence and resources to achieve.

Dr Goodall, in turn, has been feeling equally enthusiastic. “I can’t wait to see my old friends, to see how the projects are going, to meet new people, and some of our amazing partners,” she said.

The Greek Roots & Shoots office also offers several resources to the community including free seminars for teachers on experiential learning, events that promote environmental justice and wildlife welfare and scholarships to children and youth who designed and implemented projects through the Roots & Shoots program in Greece.

Dr Goodall will also attend events at the American Community Schools Athens, Pinewood American International School (Thessaloniki), and the Natural History Museum of Crete-University of Crete. During these visits, students who have completed projects through of Jane Goodall's Roots & Shoots program will be able to showcase their projects. These events are exclusive for students who have submitted a project.
