Man dies after falling from the Acropolis in suspected suicide

A man believed to be in his forties has died on Friday after falling from one of the most famous ancient archaeological sites in the world, the Acropolis in a suspected suicide.

Emergency services rushed to the scene of the incident which occurred around 3:10pm, but the man could not be revived and was pronounced dead shortly after.

The President of the Federation of the Preservation of Antiquities, Ioannis Mavrikopoulos told protothema.gr that the man aged forty-five years old was sitting on a wall with his legs hanging down, "when he suddenly jumped before anyone could stop him. Emergency services tried reviving him for twenty minutes, but they did not succeed."

According to information from the Fire Brigade, the tragic incident occurred at the intersection of Epimenidou and Thrasyllou, across from the Acropolis Museum.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.
