Twenty-two year old Greek Australian, Thanasi Kokkinakis will headline the Australian Open qualifiers at Melbourne Park alongside Vera Zvonareva and Marcos Baghdatis.

Kokkinakis is among 10 Australian men qualifying and will play against Mohamed Safwat, Egyptian world No.1 in the opening round.

The news comes after the young tennis player was snubbed for a discretionary wildcard into the Australian Open, despite being one of just eight men to defeat Roger Federer in 2018.

Tennis Australia awarded qualifying wildcards to Akira Santillan, Blake Ellis, Rinky Hijikata, Maverick Banes, Max Purcell, Aleksandar Vukic, Luke Saville and Alexander Crnokrak.

Qualifying for the first grand slam begins on Tuesday, with players needing to win three qualifying matches in order to reach the main draw.
