Greece’s Maria Sakkari wins first round at Australian Open

Greece’s Maria Sakkari beat Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko in the women’s open match at the Australian Open 6-1, 3-6, 6-2.

Ranked 42 in the world, Sakkari breezed her way through the first set 6-1, before losing the second set 3-6 to ranked 22 Ostapenko and then took the final set 6-2.

Sakkari, who made her first final in San Jose last year, is starting to make a major impact on tour.
