Prestigious nomination for Dora Bakoyanni from Cyprus

The Republic of Cyprus has nominated Dora Bakoyannis for the position of Secretary-General of the Council of Europe, according to a statement issued on Friday from New Democracy.

Greece's main opposition party, New Democracy, welcomed the nomination where for the first time a politician from Greece is nominated for such a high-ranking and important political position.

The party thanked the Republic of Cyprus for nominating and supporting Bakoyiannis' candidacy and said it expects the Tsipras government to do the same.
