Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas and Italy’s Matteo Berrettini went head to head in the first round of the Australian Open on court 3 today with Tsitsipas beating Berrettini and advancing through to the second round.
Tsitsipas dropped the first set 7-6 but won the second 6-4 and the third 6-3, while Tsitsipas struggled in the fourth and final set before taking the set 7-6.
Ranked no. 15, Stefanos is now one step closer to achieving his important goal in this Australian Open of reaching the semifinal and breaking into the top 10.
The Greek sensation recently played in Sydney where he was seeded no. 1 but lost in the quarters to Italian Andreas Seppi.
This is the second time that Stefanos and Matteo played as Tsitsipas also beat Berrettini 6-7 (6) 7-6 (4) 7-6 (2) in the US Open qualifications in 2017.
