The Cabinet of Germany on Wednesday "approved the signature of the NATO Accession Protocol for the Republic of North Macedonia," German government spokesman, Steffen Seibert announced.
"We are convinced that the accession of North Macedonia to NATO will contribute to the security and stability not only of the EuroAtlantic area and will not only strengthen the transatlantic community but also give a significant boost for the further stabilisation of the Western Balkans," he continued.
The protocol will be signed by the Alliance's permanent representatives in February, and then ratified by Germany's parliament in the form of a law.
The accession will come into force he added when all NATO member-states send notification that they have ratified the accession protocol.
