Tavern in Kavala donates all its takings to help fight Kids' Cancer

February 15 is International Childhood Cancer Day and to mark the occasion tavern owner Yiannis Sarris from Kavala, Macedonia will be donating all of his shop’s takings to Kavala’s Cancer Council to help fight kids’ cancer.

On Monday, February 18, 2019, those who choose to eat at "To Koutouki Tou Sarri" a tavern in the city centre will be helping a great cause as all money that is raised on the day will be donated directly to the Cancer Council in Kavala.

Instead of only donating profits, or donating staff wages, Yiannis decided he wanted to go a step further and give all his takings from the till on Monday to the help fight the disease.

According to figures, around 300,000 children worldwide are suffering from various forms of cancer, 80% of whom come from middle and low-income families.

In Greece, about 300 children are affected annually by cancer, mainly from leukemia and 70% of them are cured due to the availability of treatment and trained specialists. In contrast, third world country mortality rates are very high.
