Police authorities on Friday started stamping the passports of the citizens of North Macedonia with the new constitutional name, upon their arrival at or departure from the country's borders.

The trilingual stamp states "This passport is property of the Republic of North Macedonia" in English, French and the official language of North Macedonia.

Based on the decisions of a committee set up by North Macedonia's government to meet the commitments arising under the Prespes Agreement, passports bearing the country's new name will start to be issued before the end of the year. Until then, the interior ministry will place the above stamp on existing travel documents and any issued during the transition period, specifying that they belong to citizens of the Republic of North Macedonia.
