The US Secretary of State John Sullivan on Monday welcomed the appointment of George Katrougalos as Greece’s new Foreign Minister.

According to Greek government sources, Sullivan congratulated Katrougalos during a telephone conversation between the two men.

According to the same source, Sullivan expressed his country's satisfaction over the coming into force of the Prespes Agreement, while Katrougalos briefed Sullivan about the forthcoming trilateral Greece-Cyprus-Israel in Crete.

Katrougalos also informed the Secretary of State of his intention to attend the NATO Summit scheduled to take place in Washington between April 3 and 4, on the sidelines of which a further strengthening of the US-Greece cooperation could be discussed, he said.
