Souvlaki by the Sea at Avoca Beach

A juicy, tasty souvlaki is always a good idea but when you can enjoy it by the perfect backdrop of a beach it results in the ultimate Greek dining experience. This is exactly what Greek Australian couple Con and Fotina had in mind when they created Souvlaki by the Sea at Avoca Beach, which is in the central coast of New South Wales, Australia.

Having lived with their two daughters in Terrigal for nearly five years former Sydneysiders Con and Fotina knew the central coast would be the perfect spot to give customers enjoying a swim or a walk, a taste of Greece.

“After we moved from Sydney to Terrigal, I started looking for a shop to sell traditional Greek souvlaki but being seasonal and facing high rents, I then thought of a food trailer,” explains Con.

After much searching, Con found an Airstream in the United States that was a shell and began the long process of restorations. After taking 8 months to complete, it then started traveling across the high seas to Australia. “A month later, one shiny Airstream was in our hot little hands,” he says. “The fit-out started April 2018, and it took us about 4 months to complete the commercial kitchen in the Airstream and then start trading at small markets on the Central Coast of NSW. We then found a patch of land on private property behind Avoca Beach Cinema where we have been trading from Friday to Sunday 11 – 5 pm.”

It is with pride and passion that Souvlaki By The Sea offers customers a high standard of service, with high-quality produce and mouth-watering flavours. Their classic menu of pork, lamb and chicken souvlaki with the traditional combination of fresh tomato, onion, tzatziki and mouth-watering yiayia-style chips in an authentic pita had been an instant hit with locals and tourists, who love being able to relive their favourite Greece souvlaki memories right by the beach.

“The feedback we have had has been fantastic from both the locals and tourists,” says Con adding “We love being able to give everybody a delicious, fresh taste of Greece.”
