Athens’ popular Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) has continued to see great growth in 2018 and reached 5.3 million visitors last year, a record number for a venue of its kind in Greece.

In just two years since it first opened to the public, the SNFCC has become a prime destination for entertainment, learning and exercise and a top cultural destination in Athen for both tourists and locals. At the same time, the Stavros Niarchos Park is now among the most significant parks in the Greek capital.

Specifically, SNFCC had 5,300,000 visits in 2018, a 76 percent increase compared to 2017 that is also reflected in the monthly figures, where in some cases the increase in visitors exceeded 400 pct.

Nikos Manolopoulos, the SNFCC's Managing Director, commented: “ The public rewards the creation of a unique project of cultural and environmental sensitivity. The people of Attica, in particular, return to the SNFCC again and again, applauding the way the project functions."

"This high number of visitors, of course, creates needs that have to be taken into account by all the agencies involved," he said, citing the need to construct a Metro station nearby as an example.

The impressive increase in visitors is not accidental but the result of a series of strategic moves, he concluded.

The impressive SNFCC building houses the National Library and National Opera, in addition to hosting a large number of events and activities in its extensive gardens, the surrounding grounds and facilities.
