Miracle in Crete as stolen icon of Panagia is found in perfect condition after devastating fire

A fire in Lagada, outside Heraklion in Crete, helped locals find a Holy icon of Panagia Dakryousa, which was stolen nine days ago from the Holy Church of Agios Athanasios of Heraklion.

The miraculous icon was stolen by two unknown thieves who broke into the temple also stole two Holy Crosses.

According to lagadas.net, the Holy icon was found by accident on Tuesday, in between two plum trees that caught fire in the remote village. The stolen icon appeared after two locals were searching around and saw something shining amongst burnt trees.

Priest Fotis Arvanitidis, described the unexpected discovery as divine intervention, as there was not even the slightest scratch or ash on the icon.

Agios Athanasios of Heraklion has often been the target of burglars who usually steal money that is left by locals for candles.
