New Arrival in Athens' Coffee Scene: LOT51

Boasting the Moodbar coffee-machine (“the most innovative espresso machine in the world”) and offering brunch, meals, and cocktails all day long, LOT51 is a hip new cafe-bar on Vrazilias Sq, across the Megaro Mousikis metro station. In a 100% smoke-free, naturally-lit and cool space, with stark, sparkling white as its primary colour, clean minimal lines, splashes of green from plants hanging from mesh ceiling fixtures or the aqua blue of a surfboard placed on a window sill, this place stands out from the rest.

With what has been described as a ‘New York vibe’ the large and airy space offers a welcome, laid back yet sophisticated escape from the hustle and bustle of life in the city centre. It is named after the mysterious Area 51, a controversial place in Nevada, USA (Wikipedia explains: “US Air Force facility commonly known as Area 51 is a highly classified remote detachment of Edwards Force Base within the Nevada Testing Range. The base's current primary purpose is publicly unknown; however, based on historical evidence, it most likely supports the development and testing of experimental aircraft and weapons systems. The intense secrecy surrounding the base has made it the frequent subject of conspiracy theories and a central component to UFO folklore.”)

Although an all-day cafe-bar (there are two bars, one for coffee and one for drinks), LOT51 has a fetish for quality coffee, serving blends from as far and wide as India, Brazil, Ethiopia and South America and even serves coffee aromas including floral blends. Customers can learn how to brew their own coffee on site and can buy specialty coffees to take home, as the three experienced barista owners (Kostas Spiliopoulos, Spyros Lappas and Panagiotis Zotiadis) feel such knowledge and appreciation of coffee is key.

From yummy Mediterranean-American brunch dishes to classics such as burgers, wraps, salads, and pizzas as well as healthy options to nighttime classic and signature cocktails (with a wide array of rum, whiskey and gin labels), LOT51 welcomes customers throughout the day.

Address: Papadiamandopoulou 24B, Vrazilias Sq, Ilisia.
