Eight Greeks amongst richest people in Australia for 2019

The Australian Financial Review over the weekend released its annual Financial Review Rich List, revealing the list of Australia's two hundred wealthiest individuals and families, and this year eight Greek Australians were included.

1. Nick Politis- estimated fortune of $1.35 billion dollars 

Mr Politis is an Australian business and one of the most influential people in rugby league, the Chairman of Sydney-based NRL team the Sydney Roosters. In March 1974, Politis also ran WFM Motors Pty Ltd, rebranding its name to "City Ford" and revolutionising it into one of the largest Ford dealerships in Australia.

2. Kostas Makris- estimated fortune of $1.26 billion

Kostas "Con" Makris made his fortune from real estate investments in Adelaide. He currently owns The Makris Group, South Australia’s leading privately owned property group, that owns shopping centres, office buildings and other commercial properties in Adelaide, Sydney, and Melbourne. Makris was also the former owner of his childhood Greek football club, Panachaiki.

3. Spiros Alysandratos- estimated fortune of $869 million

Mr Alysandratos is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of one of the largest travel agencies in the world, the Consolidated Travel Group, which provides wholesale ticketing services to travel agencies.

4. Theo Karedis -estimated fortune of $737 million

In 2002, liquor baron Theo Karedis sold his bottle-shop chain, Theo’s Liquor, to Coles Myer for a reported $175 million in cash and shares. After selling his chain that had grown to 48 stores, he partnered with Arthur Laundry to purchase hotels across the country and their luxury yacht ‘Infinity Pacific’.

5. Harry Stamoulis- estimated fortune of $660 million

Harry Stamoulis is the Head of Stamoulis Property Group, a real estate and investment business that owns property in both Australia and Greece.

6. Kerry Harmanis- estimated fortune of $609 million

Kerry Harmanis is the founding director and executive chairman of Jubilee Mines, as well as the founder and president of Mindful Meditation Australia. Formerly a lawyer, Mr Harmanis started up a successful gold processing business ‘Jubilee’ in 1979, later selling the company to the Swiss giant Xstrata in 2007.

7. Kayla Itsines- estimated fortune of $487 million

Kayla Itsines is one of the world’s leading fitness figures. Not only is she a personal trainer, but she is also the creator of a series of fitness ebooks titled ‘Bikini Body Guides’ and has become an entrepreneur with her meal-planning and workout app, ‘Sweat with Kayla’.

8. Nick Georgalis- estimated fortune of $356 million

Nick Georgalis is the founder and Managing Director of one of Canberra’s most successful property empire, Geocon.
