Greece's Foreign Minister George Katrougalos, met with the UN Special Envoy for the Cyprus issue Jane Holl Lute, on the sidelines of a visit to Washington to attend the Foreign Ministers of NATO meeting on Friday.

Speaking to the media, Katrougalos said he reiterated to the UN envoy that Greece ''considers the Cyprus issue one of international law'' and that the Greek government is committed to the resolution of the Cyprus issue respecting United Nations decisions.

Greece recognises the exclusive jurisdiction of the two sides - the Cyprus Republic and the Turkish Cypriot community - to discuss their issues between them, he said, and repeated Greece's consistent stance in support of keeping a UN peacekeeping force on Cyprus.

Following his meeting with Lute, Katrougalos met with representatives of American Jewish organisations, discussing the strategic relationship of Greece and Israel and the trilateral collaboration between Greece, Cyprus and Israel.
