At the age of 9, Marina Vernicos was surprised with her first camera by her father, during a trip to Hong Kong and that was the beginning of her passion for photography, which has turned her into an award-winning professional fine art photographer.

Marina has been engaged in photography now for more than 20 years and has captured breathtaking landscapes through her lens. “Photography is my passion and for the past years I’ve been photographing with a drone,” Marina said. Her work has been exhibited in distinguished galleries and museums around the world including Greece, Paris, London, Monaco, Italy, Cyprus, NY, Qatar, and Korea.

Born in Athens, Greek was Marina’s first language. She left Greece to study  Communications and Photography at the Emerson College of Boston and Business Administration at Harvard Extension School, in the US.

A highlight in Marina’s career was her recent nomination as National Geographic’s Photographer of the Year for 2018 and she was also awarded first prize at the Global Art Awards in Dubai, by His Highness Sheikh Tahnoun bin Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Nahyan. Marina recalls she “submitted a series of photographs and video art and was nominated for my video. I never thought I would be awarded. I really cannot express my feelings. I was more than thrilled.”

Kleftiko in Milos

Each photograph Marina takes has the power to communicate her essence without words. One of her favourite shots she states is the “half submerged photo in one of the most beautiful spots on the Greek islands, Kleftiko in Milos.”

Marina has also received the ‘Sandro Botticelli’ at the Palazzo Giucciardi Bongianni, Florence and in France ‘La Grand Exposition Universelle’ at the Eiffel Tower. With electrifying images that leaves audiences speechless, Luxury brands such as Mercedes, Perrier, Napapijri, Folli Follie and Sani Resort have collaborated with Marina on photo projects. She was also selected as an ambassador for Hermès.

The ambitious photographer’s dream is to “visit every country on our planet”, as she’s already visited 127 countries and in 5 years time Marina wants to have received more awards and visited more countries.
