A newborn baby was found dead in Aigio, a town in the Peloponnese, after a 30-year-old woman reportedly threw her son in a trash can after giving birth.

The woman later took herself to medical check-up revealed the lady suffered complications after giving birth and it is unknown if the baby was still alive when the mother placed the newborn in the bin.

The infant was found in the area of Plastiras neighborhood and was taken for forensic testing in order to determine the causes of his death. An anonymous phone call was issued to police with information that a mother had thrown her newborn baby in a bin. Security Officers and the police went to the 30-year-old's home, however, she denied giving birth.

After several hours, the woman suffered bleeding and was hurried to the Hospital in Rio, where doctors confirmed that she had actually given birth a few hours beforehand. Security searched the garbage bins in the area and found the baby dead in a plastic bag.

Two other similar cases had shocked the country in 2018. In Petroupoli, Athens, a 19-year-old had thrown her newborn in a garbage bin just after giving birth, while in New Smyrna, Athens, a 22-year-old had also thrown her infant outside a block of apartments.
