Greece condemns Easter Sunday terror attack in Sri Lanka

Greece's Foreign Ministry on Sunday expressed its condemnation of the terror attack in Sri Lanka and offered its support and solidarity to the people of the country.

"Profoundly shocked by appalling attacks on churches and hotels in #SriLanka. #Greece condemns in the strongest terms these heinous acts of violence. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected," the foreign ministry said, in a message posted on its Twitter account.

The country's main opposition party New Democracy leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis joined in international condemnation of the Easter Sunday attacks that killed and injured several hundreds in Sri Lanka, in a tweet posted on Sunday.

"The attacks in Sri Lanka on the day of Catholic Easter provoke horror and rage. The thoughts of us all are with the victims and their families," ND's leader posted on Twitter, while also underlining that "the international battle against religious intolerance and terrorism must remain undiminished."

The terror attack has claimed the lives of more than 200 innocent people and injured more than 400, including many foreigners, in eight Easter Sunday bomb attacks targeting hotels and churches in Sri Lanka, where authorities have declared a curfew and restricted internet access.
