Greece’s elite members of the Presidential Guard marched through the streets of Adelaide yesterday as they took part in the Anzac Day Parade for South Australia.
The Evzones marched along King William Street and passed Governor House in the presence of the Governor of South Australia Hieu Van Le and other dignitaries.
The Greek Presidential Guard took part in the parade alongside Australian soldiers and marched alongside them to commemorate the role of the soldiers of Crete and Greece.
Australia and Greece share a proud history as allies during both WWI and WW11.
Thousands of Greek Australians and non-Greeks watched the Evzones march alongside their Australian friends commemorating the shared values of freedom, independence, and friendship, which was a first for the South Australian community.
The Presidential Guard is also participating in this year’s Greek Orthodox Easter Celebrations and will be at St George Church in Thebarton tonight, where they will be escorting the Epitafio around the surrounding streets of Thebarton.
They will also be taking part in midnight mass tomorrow at St George Church in Thebarton, The Nativity of Christ at Port Adelaide and Prophet Elias in Norwood.
