Man tragically dies in Kalamata while filming firework celebrations for Pascha

A man has tragically died in Kalamata overnight while filming traditional fireworks displays during Pascha celebrations.

The 53-year-old man has been identified as Kostas Theodorakakis, who was a publisher and owner of Palmos radio station and media website Messinia News.

Mr Theodarakakis was filming the event live for his publication on Sunday when he was hit in the head and fell to the ground before being rushed to Kalamata hospital.

 

Paramedics and doctors tried to save the man, however, he suffered serious head injuries and later died in hospital.

Mr Theodorakakis has left behind his wife and two sons, who are grieving along with the local community.
