Police in Cyprus are continuing investigations to retrieve the remains of more victims in what appears to be the country’s worst ever serial killing case.

The body of a fourth woman inside a suitcase was retrieved Sunday from a man-made toxic lake, west of the capital of Nicosia.

Cypriot National Guard captain Nikos Metaxas confessed last Thursday to killing five women he met on dating sites, as well as two of their daughters aged six and eight, over a three-year period.

However, investigators say they fear there may be as many as 30 victims.

The 35-year-old, who is in custody, was a career officer with the Cypriot National Guard. Police say he confessed to seven murders of the females who are all foreign nationals.

Authorities said they will begin to review the online footprints of other women who have gone missing to see if they had contact with the suspect, fearing the list of victims will grow.

The Cypriot police chief and leading investigators have also turned to experts from Scotland Yard to help with the investigation.

The case came to light on April 14 with the discovery of the bound body of 38-year-old Filipina Mary Rose Tiburcio down a flooded mineshaft near the lake.

This triggered a homicide investigation that led to Metaxas’ arrest before a second body, believed to be that of fellow Philippino lady Arian Palanas Lozano, 28, was found in the same spot on April 20.
