Athens “Eleftherios Venizelos” International Airport has been named as one of the top 3 airports in the world for overall passenger experience.
According to the global airport rankings released annually by AirHelp, which assesses airlines and airports worldwide, Athens International Airport (AIA) ranked third in the scorecard for categories including on-time performance, service quality and the airports' options for food and shopping.
AIA won its place in the top three with an overall score of 8.38 out of 10, among a total of 132 airports assessed by AirHelp.
Hamad International Airport at Doha, Qatar came first and Tokyo Haneda International Airport in Japan came second, both with overall scores of 8.39. Afonso Pena International on Brazil took fourth spot, while Gdansk Lesh Walesa in Poland ranked fifth.
Panagiotis Divanis of AirHelp said the success of Athens International Airport was based on the pursuit of exceptional performance times and the quality of services, "as travelers appreciate the accuracy and want friendly service in the countries they visit."
