Chinese President hosts lunch in honour of Greek President

China's President Xi Jinping welcomed the President of the Hellenic Republic Prokopis Pavlopoulos on Tuesday at the entrance of the People's Palace, while dozens of students gathered outside the People's Palace welcoming the two men holding flags of Greece and China.

The Greek President who is in China since Monday on a five-day official visit where he will be attending the Conference on Dialogue of Asian Civilisations, discuss bilateral economic relations with his counterpart and also refer to national issues whilst expressing his support. Moreover, both leaders stress the importance of strengthening the Dialogue of Civilizations.

After the meeting, the Chinese President gave an official lunch to honor the Greek President.

Prior to his visit to China, Pavlopoulos was interviewed by chinese news agency Xinhua where he emphasised the importance of dialogue between civilisations.
"The East and the West, we have many more things that unite us than those that separate us."

"We live in troubled and dangerous times, so we must defend above all the human being in such times. If we do not do this through dialogue between civilisations, there is no other way to do it," he added, and said that ""global peace depends on the dialogue between civilisations."

"I really admire the enormous progress made by China in the field of e-government, which is very important (not only) for the course and the relations between the state and the citizens, but also for the economy itself," he said.
