8-year-old Alexia, who was critically wounded after being shot in the head while playing outside her home near Athens during Easter Sunday celebrations, has come out of intensive care and is finally off life support.
According to reports, although the young girl is still not able to communicate, doctors are satisfied with her progress and optimistic that she is finally able to breathe without mechanical support.
"It is a miracle. We have a long way to go but we hope that Alexia will be back quickly because we are missing her," said the heartbroken parents of the 8-year-old girl.
Alexia was playing in the front yard of her home on Easter Sunday when she was accidentally injured by a bullet to the head. After investigations, police arrested a 54-year-old man who now faces charges of causing grievous bodily harm and possessing an unregistered firearm.
