Greece’s young tennis star Maria Sakkari has continued her fantastic run through the clay-court season, needing only 55 minutes to beat Anna Tatishvilli from the United States and winning her first match at Roland Garros, 6-0, 6-1.
After her opening win in Paris, Sakkari has now gone 13-4 in the main draw play on clay this season (15-4 with qualifying wins included), including a semi-final showing at Rome and breaking through for her first WTA singles title in Rabat, beating Johanna Konta in the final.
From the first set, Sakkari’s incredible form was on display, as she returned winners with ease. The young Greek tennis player blasted clean winners off Tatishvili’s serve to break for 4-0 and, two games later, she closed out the first set.
Maria, who is 29 seed, had 13 winners in the opening set and her powerful groundstrokes helped her win the second set with ease, booking a spot through to the second round.
