Currently ranked in the top 15 in the world with all four major sanctioning bodies (IBF, WBO, WBA, and WBC), George Kambosos Jr, also known as ‘Ferocious’ is gearing up for his next big fight that will take place in the Greek capital on June 7th, 2019.

His fight is the headline event for the biggest boxing promotion to ever take place at Galatsi Olympic Arena in Athens. George’s team are in final stages of confirming a solid fighter from Venezuela, with a record of 12 wins 2 losses and 10 KO victories. This opponent comes in after his promoter and manager approached multiple top 10 world-rated fighters, who all turned down a fight with George.

From a young age, the champion boxer says it has been his dream to fight in Greece and to give Greek fans a close-up of the world-class fighter. “I'm a very proud and patriotic Greek Australian fighter and it's an honour to represent both nations. As I sit at IBF world number 5, I'm closing in on fighting for the lightweight world title and winning it, so to be able to get this opportunity to headline this amazing event in Athens is very exciting not only for myself but for all my supporters' worldwide,” he said.

George has been preparing extremely hard for his June 7th fight, starting his camp early in Australia and flying back to Miami, Florida, where the young professional is training three times a day, including roadwork, strength and conditioning, performance training, sparring, bag work, and pad work. He has also implemented a lot of new recovery sessions to make sure his body is at 110% in every session. George notes that “to prepare for a fight you have to physically and mentally go to a place where not many people are willing to go. You have to be ready for war, ready for whatever your opponent brings to the table, and that is exactly how I'm preparing. I'm learning and growing as a fighter as this is what will take me from a world contender to champion of the world.”

The journey to the lightweight world title is getting closer for George. Since GCT last spoke with him in 2018, he signed to powerhouse American promoter Lou Dibella and continued his winning ways as an undefeated fighter with a record of 16-0 9KOs. The young boxer has also been in camp with the legendary Manny Pacquiao as his main sparring partner. While being Pacquiao’s sparring partner for the last 3 fights, George says it's given him opportunities to fight two of his World Title undercards in Kuala Lumpur and recently at the historic MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, with these successful victories bringing him closer towards his world title chase.

If he is successful on June 7th, George will be the highest rated contender for the IBF world title eliminator, and that will be the next target in late September, early October back in the US on worldwide TV. “When I am victorious I will automatically put myself in a position where the IBF champion cannot run, can not hide, that he must face George "Ferocious" Kambosos Jr next. And I can tell you I will be 110% ready to capture it for not only myself but all the Greeks, the Australians and all my fans world wide.”

To the solid fighter from Venezuela who he will meet in Athens, the ambitious boxer has some words for him. “I hope you are preparing 100%, I hope you bring your all because whatever you bring I’ll bring a whole lot more. I’m a different beast, I am a modern-day spartan warrior and no one including my opponent will get in my way and deny me of what I am chasing and that is becoming world champion. I’m coming into this fight with bad intentions, I will not be happy with anything less than this man in front of me out cold on the canvas.”

George also added, “To all my fans in Greece, Australia and all over the world I am honoured and proud to have you all in my corner. Many of you have seen me rise through the ranks and grow into the fighter I am today and I'm excited to share this dream of becoming World Champion with my fans all over the world.”
