British tourist in Zakynthos dies after by 2 fellow Brits attacked him

A 35-year-old British tourist and father of two who was attacked by other Britons during a brawl after what is claimed to have been "a misunderstanding" in a bar in Laganas, Zakynthos has died of his injuries.

According to Greek police, the fight spilled on to the street where the victim was punched, causing him to fall and hit his head on the pavement.

Police confirmed the victim Matt Jeffery, 35, died in intensive care at a hospital in Athens where he had been airlifted after the attack.

Described as a “gentlemen” by friends, Jeffery, from Somerset, was visiting Zakynthos for a bachelor party when the fight, which was captured on video, broke out at the popular nightclub strip on the island.

Police arrested two men after viewing footage handed over by another holidaymaker.

The British men are reportedly aged 22 and 25 and have been charged with manslaughter but were released after appearing before an investigating magistrate and posting bail of €2,500 each.
