According to Eurostat seasonally adjusted data released on Tuesday, Greece registered the highest drop in unemployment among all 28 EU countries in February 2019, compared to the same period last year, from 20.6% to 18.5%.
Unemployment in Greece reached 872,000 with 14.8% attributed to unemployment among meN and 23.3% for women.
Youth unemployment in Greece (under 25 years of age) dropped to 38.8 % in February, from 39.3% in January and 40.3% a year ago.
The EU28 unemployment rate was 6.4 % in April 2019, stable compared with March 2019 and down from 7.0% in April 2018. "This remains the lowest rate recorded in the EU28 since the start of the EU monthly unemployment series in January 2000," it said.
Unemployment in the Eurozone (EU19) registered at 7.6% compared to 7.7% in March 2019 and 8.4% in April 2018. "This is the lowest rate recorded in the euro area since August 2008," Eurostat said.
In March, in particular, the number of EU unemployed reached 15.8 million and in the Eurozone 12.5 million people.
Euro area (EA19) seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate was 7.6% in April 2019, down from 7.7% in March 2019 and from 8.4% in April 2018.
The highest unemployment rates in EU28 in April were registered in Greece (18.5% compared to February), Spain (13.8%) and Italy (10.2%).
The lowest were registered in the Czech Republic (2.1 %) and Germany (3.2 %), it said.
Youth unemployment in April 2019 reached 15.8% in the eurozone and 14.2% in the EU. The highest rates were observed in Greece (38.8 % in February 2019), Spain (32.7%) and Italy (31.4%) and the lowest in Germany (5.3 %) and the Netherlands (6.2%).
